At the Bluetooth Developers Conference in San Jose, California, Motorola announced its second generation Bluetooth™ Wireless Headset. The new BL1010 has the same case design as Motorola’s previous model. The major changes are in improved battery life, sound quality and interoperability with more Bluetooth phone models.

Standby time is claimed to be doubled to as much as 70 hours, and talk time increased to 4 hours. The headset also stores paring information for up to 8 devices, including various mobile phones, PDAs and laptop computers. . After unfolding the microphone boom and placing the headset over the ear, the headset automatically links to the user’s compatible Bluetooth product without the user ever touching the device.

In a discussion with BluetoothNews.com, Bill Zbylut, Senior Marketing Manager for Motorola’s Companion Products and Accessories Group, explained that the improvement in battery life was of critical importance to users. Zbylut also told us that, in addition to the increased battery life and connectivity, the new headset provides better audio quality and an increased maximum volume.

The Bluetooth Headset by Motorola is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2003 at an MSRP of $149.99 on Motorola’s Web site at www.motorola.com/shop/btheadset.

BluetoothNews.com will be reviewing this, and other new headsets, in the coming weeks.
